Welcome

Welcome to Polymer Clay Eclectic. Here you will find a wide range of jewelry, fiber tools, home decor and art objects all made from that most versatile medium - polymer clay. You will also find links to resources and information about polymer clay.

This is also the new home for Fox Den FiberArts. For those of you who are unfamiliar with Fox Den FiberArts it may seem to be a strange thing to incorporate into a polymer clay site, but actually does fit since it is one of the very few producers of polymer clay spindles for hand spinners. It is also where I got my start working with polymer clay.

What Is Polymer Clay

Polymer clay is an art medium that has been around since the early 1940's when it was used by doll makers and later, miniaturists. It has undergone an explosion of interest in the last decade or so as more and more artists of all kinds have discovered it and begun to test its limits. That exploration is continuing today. We have by no means reached the limits of what polymer clay can do.

Polymer clay is actually a plastic material that has a consistency similar to earth clays. It will remain soft and workable indefinitely when stored at room temperature. However once it is cured at a relatively low temperature of around 265 degrees, it becomes rigid and will keep the shape it has been worked into. Different brands have different characteristics both before and after curing. These differences can help the artist fine tune their work to get just the effect that they want.
